New Shopify Plus Partnership with Fashion Makes Change

Climate change is one of the more pressing global issues to focus on, especially as a consumer. As of last May, the concentration of carbon dioxide (CO2) in our atmosphere was the highest it’s ever been. Sometimes, the e-commerce industry can be one of the culprits - fast fashion is responsible for almost 10% of annual global emissions. That’s why Shopify Plus has focused on partnering with organizations that help fight climate change.
How Women’s Rights Tie In
Entry-level supply chain roles (that are oftentimes unsafe and underpaid) are 45% filled by women, yet only 10% of women hold jobs at the management level. Women in these roles deserve more recognition and more livable wages. Empowering women in these roles to fight gender equality and climate change has the potential to make even more progress on both fronts.
In order to combat these two dire issues, it’s important to take a holistic approach. That’s where Fashion Makes Change comes in.
What is Fashion Makes Change?
Fashion Makes Change is an initiative that connects women's empowerment and climate change. As a project of Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors, they have recently launched an app with Shopify that allows customers to round up their checkout price to donate to the Empower@Work Collaborative. E@W’s mission is to “empower women workers, embed gender equity in business practice and catalyze policy and systems change” and has been working towards that goal for over a decade.
What You Can Do To Help
As a consumer, you can donate at checkout when purchasing from places like Jimmy Choo, Kate Spade, or Nordstrom. As a Shopify e-commerce store, install the Fashion Make Change application to seamlessly help create change in global supply chains.
